National Industrial Court located at the Benin Judicial Division has prohibited the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) from embarking on any industrial action in Edo State Primary schools.

The order was given on Monday, February 1, by Hon. Justice A. A. Adewemimo, after hearing propositions put forth by the Edo State Government and the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) as applicants in a case with Suit No. NICN/BEN/04/2021 via the Edo State Solicitor-General, Oluwole Iyamu, SAN.

In the suit, defendants are Chairman, NUT, Edo State, Pius O. Okhuleliegbe; Assistant Secretary-General, NUT, Edo State, Moni Mike Modesty Itua, for themselves, and representing the fellows of the Edo State wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT).

However, the Honourable Justice deterred the NUT Chairman and Assistant Secretary-General accordingy, either acting for themselves or through their agents or privies from venturing on any strike action awaiting the hearing and resolution of the motion on notice, which is slated for Tuesday, February 9th, 2021.
